With the recent epidemiological data showing a significant increase in the number of dengue cases in the country, the Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center (FNLGHTC) bolsters the “5S Strategy”, a campaign against dengue infection.

Mr. Ariel James C. Cabulagan, a DOH – Certified Infectious Disease Nurse Specialist, emphasized the importance of safeguarding prevention and control measures in fight of vector-borne infectious diseases such as dengue. In his advocacy lecture, he highlighted on the “5S” against dengue infection, namely: Search and destroy breeding sites; Self-protection from mosquito bites; Seek early medical consultation; Support fogging in areas with clustering of cases; and Sustain hydration. This strategy is anchored with the goal to eliminate the vector of the virus and to alleviate or possibly eradicate the dengue and other mosquito-borne infections in the country.

“Ang dengue ay is a vector-borne disease na nakukuha through the daytime mosquito called Aedes aegypti. Kung walang vector ay nangangahulugan ding walang dengue virus na kakalat. Kaya tayo’y magtulungan at mag-ingat para ang sakit na ito ay siguradong deng-get out”, explained Mr. Cabulagan.

Moreover, FNLGHTC is also actively involved in the implementation of “Deng-Get Out” activities such as the “Sabayang 4-O’clock Habit”, and distribution of insect-repellent lotions. It is also consistent in maintaining its Dengue Fast Lane which was established to provide immediate and proper medical intervention to suspected dengue patients.

While campaign to stop dengue in the country has been intensified, measures to address the problem is now a wide spread campaign. Everyone is urged to participate and practice these key actions to protect the community against dengue as the rainy season has started in the country.
